LULLABY OF THE SNOW / WITH ALLEN HARRINGTON, SAXOPHONE

THURSDAY, MARCH 13, 2025 | 1:00-2:00pm | Crescent Arts Centre

Winnipegger Allen Harrington is one of Canada's finest wind players. He makes Sally Beamish's iconic saxophone concerto and Astor Piazzolla's famous Libertango absolutely sing and the MCO explores composer Benjamin Britten's childhood influences. A must-see for band students!

ᐊᐊᐧᓱᐃᐧᐣ AWASOWIN / WITH CELLIST-COMPOSER CRIS DERKSEN AND AUTHOR DAVID A. ROBERTSON

THURSDAY, MAY 1, 2025 | 1:00-2:00pm | Canadian Museum for Human Rights

Gather and warm yourself by the fire. Through sublime music, spoken word, and the sounds of nature, the trailblazing cellist-composer immerses us in stories about humanity's connection to the earth. Derksen is a Juno-nominated Indigenous cellist originally from Treaty 8 Northern Alberta who “braids the traditional and contemporary, weaving her classical background and her Indigenous ancestry together with new school electronics to create genre-defying music.” Canadian author David A. Robertson joins Derksen and the MCO for an unforgettable afternoon to kick off Manitoba Music Month!
