MCO SCHOOL MATINEE WITH INDIGENOUS FLUTIST & HOOP DANCER V. J. SPARVIER-WELLS
Experience the sounds and stories of the Prairies in an immersive live concert featuring the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra and flutist and hoop dancer V. J. Sparvier-Wells.
Students will discover music by Indigenous composers who draw on language, land, history, identity, stories, and beliefs alongside their classical music training.
Sparvier-Wells, a Cree musician and hoop dancer from Alberta, joins the MCO to perform her new work for hoop dancer and string orchestra, before switching to flute for a piece by Diné (Navajo) composer and pianist Connor Chee, created especially for this MCO concert.
Through music, movement, and storytelling, students are invited to experience orchestra in a new way — while getting to know and cheer on the musicians of the MCO!
