In anticipation of our April 2020 matinee and evening concert, we developed a Learning Guide to provide more behind-the-scenes information about the concerts. This was originally intended to be used by teachers, students, and home schoolers with links to the Manitoba curriculum. We are now hoping that it proves entertaining and enlightening for a broader cross-section of music lovers. Rather than the planned live performances, we have provided links to digital recordings, and you can no doubt find more examples on YouTube or Spotify. The Guides are self-explanatory; just click on most images for more information. Please contact us if you have any questions, and enjoy!
MCO Learning Guides
The MCO understands the importance of music education, which is why we’ve created a variety of instructional resources. One of these is our bilingual interactive learning guides — the MCO Discover Learning Guides. Our most recent guide supports our 22 April 2020 concert, which features composers Sid Robinovitch, Julian Grant, Kevin Lau, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Leopold Mozart, and Carl Friedrich Abel.
Designed and written by Julie Mongeon-Ferré, with grateful collaboration from the education and outreach committee, the bilingual Discover Learning Guide is an exciting way for all audience members from Kindergarten to Grade 12 and beyond, to prepare for and engage with the inspiring music and musicians featured in the April 2020 Manitoba Chamber Orchestra concerts. The Discover Learning Guide will help educators and learners to connect with the Manitoba Music K-8 and 9-12 curriculum frameworks through a variety of interactive experiences that explore the music of Robinovitch, Grant, Lau, the two Mozarts, and Abel.
The Discover Learning Guide is available in two formats:
- electronic ibook (iPad, iPhone, iPod touch or Mac)
- PDF (for reading and printing, no interactive components, available from within online version)
Enjoy your musical discoveries!
