The Manitoba Chamber Orchestra is marking a truly meaningful moment as we say farewell to Elise Anderson. Her relationship with the MCO stretches back to the very early days of the organization, alongside early leaders and instigators like Rita Menzies, Jon Snidal, and Boyd MacKenzie. Elise has given a lifetime of care, commitment, and generosity to the MCO, and her story is inseparable from the orchestra’s history.

Over the years, Elise held many titles. Her true role, however, was something far more enduring. She has been the steady, welcoming voice on the phone and the familiar, reassuring face at the box office. She was a trusted presence for subscribers, audiences, donors, sponsors, volunteers, musicians, staff, and board members. Elise built relationships that lasted decades, ensuring people felt known, valued, and deeply connected to the orchestra. She played a vital role in nurturing our subscriber and donor community, activating fundraisers, and empowering volunteers to feel a sense of ownership and pride in the organization. Some of those relationships were truly transformative, including meeting her husband — a reflection of how fully this community has been part of her life.

More than anything, Elise has been the heart of the MCO. It is difficult to imagine the organization without her warmth, knowledge, and quiet leadership. Her impact is undeniable and she leaves behind a legacy rooted in care and connection that will continue to shape the MCO for years to come.

We are profoundly grateful for everything Elise has given to the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra. She will be dearly missed, and we wish her all the very best in a well-earned and joyful retirement.
